Qibao Ancient Town is a great visit to see ancient Chinese architecture,
West Lake: the jewel of Hangzhou, an hour by bullet train outside of Shanghai.

Beautiful willow trees line the entire circumference of the lake. During the summer months they reach peak gorgeous.
During ancient times, Chinese poets would come to West Lake for inspiration.
You can indeed hire a boat and head out on the lake if so desired.
It's difficult to photograph how beautiful West Lake is. You really have to be there.

Century Park is sort of the Central Park of Shanghai. Located on the Pudong side of the river, it appears to be a popular recreation destination for locals, even with the $10 entrance fee.
